So you want to rank number 1 on google? There is so many competition out there that it isn’t easy as it was like say 10 years ago. Not only the competition is changing but Search Engines are also evolving and chaning their rules on ranking.
I wish it was easy like creating a website on you will inmediatly start ranking on search engines, the sad story is it doesn’t work like that. Before you even get started noticed or better yet get to page 1 on search results there are some things you can do. A better ranking means way more visitors to your business.
First tip: Content quality
When starting with a new website or updating your new one always start with good content, good content doesn’t mean just put everywhere keywords and hope that the search engine will notice you. Instead try to put relative and complete content for your potential visitors. For example Google uses an algorithm called Hummingbird that doesn’t focus on keywords but instead looks at the content and how it’s written.
Hummingbird is the codename given to a significant algorithm change in Google Search in 2013. Its name was derived from the speed and accuracy of the hummingbird. “Hummingbird” places greater emphasis on natural language queries, considering context and meaning over individual keywords. It also looks deeper at content on individual pages of a website, with improved ability to lead users directly to the most appropriate page rather than just a website’s homepage.

Like I stated before just putting keywords doesn’t work anymore so less focus on keyword more focus on content quality. For example google want’s to deliver quality content for its users, content that the user wants to read, even better if your content is complete the user will stay on your site and read your content. This will lower the bounce rate, a low bounce rate is good for climbing higher on the rankings.
I can’t stop emphasizing enough that you need go in depth as much as possible when writing your content, especially if you starting with your SEO game. You are not writing for a robot but for real people, they need to understand what your content represents when they searching for information. I can guarentee that everyone who is searching for something that they read the description, or called Meta description and this brings us to tip number two.
Second tip: Optimize title tag and Meta description
Google doesn’t only keep track of what people are searching but also on which websites they click and even how long they stay on the page. this means your content needs to attrack the user to click on your site and stay there, if a user clicks on a site and inmediatly goes back can hurt your ranking, this tells google that the information isn’t relative to the search terms. So do not go around and try to trick search engines or better yet the user if you want to reach the top spot.
A great way is to write a good Title tag with a Meta description that is relevant to your content so the user will understand waht your content represents and if this is what the user is looking for you will get a click. Search engines will keep track of this and relate the search terms with your content.

Try to keep the meta description simple and in natural language, meaning don’t just put keywords but write something that includes the keywords. the more relevant and readable this text is the higher your Click Through Rate (CTR) will be. CTR means the rate of persons clicking on your website and you will climb higher in the search results.
When creating a meta description try to keep the following in mind:
- Flows in a Sentence
- Easy to read
- Appealing to read Your meta description has to be appealing if this is not the case no one will click through.
Some content management systems (CMS) give you to option for filling in a custom meta title and meta content, Use this function or better yet do a keyword reseach first. Creating a meta description is simple and do not keep it to short or too long, the best thing to do is to play it safe and keep it around 250 to 300 characters or Google will truncate the description.
THIRD TIP: GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE
Google can be your friend! Google gives you all the resources for ranking number one on Google but you need to make use of this. One of these great resources is the search Console and the great thing about it it’s free to use.
